First John 1.1-4: The Word of Life

Posted on September 27, 2015

Main Idea: Through fellowship with Jesus, the Word of Life, we can have fellowship with one another.

  • John, the author, describes to us his own personal encounter with Jesus.  In what ways have you had your own personal encounter with Jesus?

  • According to John, fellowship with one another through Jesus leads to joy (v. 3-4).  What happens when a fellowship of believers in church is based on anything other than Jesus?

  • How have you personally felt joy in fellowship with other brothers and sisters at Messiah or in your community?

  • How would you respond to someone who says that they can still be a Christian and never go to church?

  • Read John 1:1-14 and First John 1:1-4.  What are the similar words and ideas that you see in these two passages?  What kind of insight do these two similar passages reveal to you about Jesus, the Word of Life?

  • Using some of the words and images from John 1:1-14 and First John 1:1-4, take time and artistically reflect on the image of Jesus that you see in these two passages. (drawing, poetry, writing, video, photo, etc.).  Consider sharing what you created with a trusted friend.

Prayer: Find ways to make fellowship with other believers a priority this week!
