First John 2.15-27: Counterfeit God

Main Idea: Antichrists are already among us, so cling to the truth of Jesus in the Scriptures.

  • An antichrist is anyone who is teaching a gospel that is “anti” (opposite of) the true gospel of Jesus as Messiah, and leads people astray.  What are some of the anti-Christ’s that you see in our society and world today?

  • What are the some of the standards that John provides in this passage for believers to measure themselves against?

  • What are some ways that we can prevent ourselves from being led astray by antichrists?

  • Read Jeremiah 31:31-34, the promises of God to those living in the time of the Messiah (us today!)

    • What is different about the new covenant versus the old covenant? 

    • What is different about us and who we are in the new covenant of God?

    • What are the promises of God for the new covenant?  How do we see Jesus living out these promises?

    • What is different about how we will know God in the new covenant versus the old covenant?
