First John 5.13-21: Farewell

Posted on November 22, 2015

Main Idea: As John says goodbye, he reminds the churches (and us) that God is always near.

  • What sort of behavior is John trying to get out of the churches?  What does he expect them to do in light of what John is teaching and sharing?

  • What assurances have you seen in your life that God is continually with you in the midst of difficulty and dilemmas?

  • How have you seen God answer prayer in your life?

  • Read James 5:13-16

    • What does James say about prayer?  Who should pray?  How often?  About what things should we pray to God?

    • How does praying lead us to repentance?  And how does that help our relationship with our brothers and sisters?

    • Compare this passage to our passage in First John for today.  Who are the people in your life that you need to continually pray for?

Practice:  Continue to prayerfully consider who you would like to invite to church for the season of Advent.  As we prepare to enter into Advent, seek to align your heart with God’s in prayer this week.  Ask something BIG AND BOLD from God for the Advent season!
